Description:

Two Greek Revolutionary fighters from 1821, a Greek Army Captain and a Greek woman Captain, are depicted with PLAYMOBIL figures, paying tribute to the 200 years since the Greek Revolution, as part of the PLAYMOBIL Play & Give programme. This social programme offers joy and support to thousands of children throughout Greece as every year, a portion of the revenue will be donated to support the goals of the “Vision of Hope” Association.

The front of the box depicts a detail from the lithograph: “View of Athens: Colonel Fabvier, leader of the Greek army, defends the outskirts of the city”.  Paris, 1827. Collection of the National Historical Museum – Athens. The PLAYMOBIL papyrus included in the package features the first two verses of the revolutionary song “Thourios” by Rigas Feraios, which was first published in 1797 and distributed throughout the Greek population under Ottoman rule. The female captain holds the flag of Spetses, the first Greek island to join the Revolution of 1821.
